Insulation

Insulation

With some of the grants and funding available – the aim is to help lower your heating bills and improve the energy efficiency of your home. There are two ways to do this though – with better heating and better insulation. Even if you have the best boiler or heaters, if your home doesn’t have good insulation, you’ll lose a huge amount of heat, and your heating cost could still be very high.

Research shows that up to 25% of heat from a home is lost through the roof, and as much as 35% can be lost through the walls. So, better insulation means you can save a lot of money and keep your home a lot warmer!

Insulation grants are available for:

  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Internal wall insulation
  • Loft insulation
  • Insulation for roof / attic rooms

.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Some homes have a gap between the two layers of bricks in the walls. These gaps were included to stop damp problems, but unfortunately it causes quite a lot of heat loss, and is not a good way of insulating your home. Material can be inserted into the gap, which still prevents damp AND insulates your home.

Internal Wall Insulation

If your home doesn’t have a gap between the bricks then it’s called a solid wall. To insulate this better a layer or material can be added on the inside, which will also stop you losing heat and make your heating more efficient, effective and cheaper.

Loft Insulation

Heat rises, so if you don’t have good insulation in your roof / loft you could be losing a lot of heat this way. Up to 25% of your heating bill could be saved by adding or replacing insulation in your loft. There is also the possibility that this could help turn your loft into a liveable space
